Ivermectin, the active ingredient of Acaromectin, exerts both systemic and contact action on insects and mites. Ivermectin stimulates secretion of gamma-aminobutyric acid by the maggot’s nerve terminations and enhances its binding to the nerve cell receptors, thus causing paralysis and death of the parasite. Acaromectin has a low toxicity in mammals and is safe at the therapeutic doses: LD50 in mice upon oral administration is 7800 mg per kg of weight. |
For treatment of ear itch in cats and dogs, Acaromectin is sprayed onto the inner ear surface at the dose of 1-2.5 ml to ensure even dampening of the skin and ear crusts. For treatment of sarcoptosis and demodecosis in dogs, and of notoedrosis in cats and dogs, Acaromectin is applied onto and around the affected areas of the skin. For protection against lice, fleas and biting lice, Acaromectin is applied onto the outer surface of ears, back of the head, neck and back. Additional disinfection of the floor, underlay and other breeding places must be carried out for protection against fleas. Animals should be treated 4 to 5 times at intervals of 8-10 days against demodecosis and twice at an interval of 8-10 days against other ectoparasites. |
