Zalben 2.5%

Zalben 2.5% is a white or greyish white suspension for oral application containing 25 mg per ml albendazol and accessory ingredients.

Zalben is a multi-purpose product active against endoparasites resident in sheep, goats and cattle. The product is effective against immature and mature nematodes resident in lungs and gastrointestinal tract, including ostertagia type II (resident in cattle), as well as cestodes and trematodes.

The active ingredients of Zalben 2.5% suppress enzymatic activity, increase membrane permeability for mono- and divalent cations and carbohydrates, disrupt the tunica and disturb muscle contraction, thus causing paralysis and death of the helmintes, which are eliminated with faeces. Zalben can be used in the treatment of chronic fasciolosis at the doses recommended. Zalben is prescribed at lower doses as defence against trematodes and cestodes. Additionally, Zalben exerts oocidic action on nematode, cestode and trematode eggs, thus reducing pasture infectivity. Zalben is prescribed to sheep, goats and cattle against gastrointestinal helmintes, lung helmintes, tapeworms and fasciolae.

• sheep and goats: 2.5 ml per 10 kg of weight for animals weighing less than 15 kg or 2 ml per 10 kg of weight for animals weighing more than 15 kg for treatment against nematodes; 4 ml per 10 kg of weight against chronic fasciolosis.
• cattle: 15 ml per 50 kg of weight against nematodes and 20 ml per 50 kg of weight against chronic fasciolosis.

The withdrawal period is 14 days for cattle and 10 days for sheep and goats. Milk may be used for food no earlier than 3 days after dehelmintization.
