Ivermectin, the active ingredient of Otodectin, exerts both systemic and contact action on helmintes, insects and mites. Ivermectin stimulates secretion of gamma-aminobutyric acid by the parasite’s nerve terminations and enhanced its binding to the nerve cell receptors, thus causing paralysis and death. Otodectin has a low toxicity in mammals and is safe at the therapeutic doses. |
Otodectin is used in dogs, cats, foxes, polar foxes and other carnivores sick with ear itch, sarcoptosis, notoedrosis, demodecosis and nematodoses (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala) and in animals affected with lice, fleas or biting lice. The product is administered via percutaneous route in the forearm region or behind the shoulder junction in accordance with aseptic rules via a short-needle syringe at the dose of 0.2 ml per kg of weight. Antihelmintic treatment is carried out singly; treatment against ectoparasites is carried out twice at an interval of 8 to 10 days. Otodectin can be used for protection against demodecosis in combination with external products. Additional disinfection of the floor, underlay and other breeding places must be carried out for protection against fleas. |
